The poet, Virginia Gillespie tells us in her introduction, that the 'Taoist Inner Tube Rider' is a "metaphor for the way I write. There is an impulse, I drop into it and trust the flow". Reading the book of poems and songs gave me a sense of flow, of healing water and well-being.
"Like the flow of water, this lyrical ride born by word, sound and image overcomes all obstacles". VG
Here's one poem.

An excerpt from the poem 'My Place'
"A soul memory hovers
above the sandstone rouge
of carved canyon temples
echoing my name...."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
An excerpt from 'Wild Cellist Review'
"Faces hushed in tender contemplation,
some with tear-glazed eyes
breathe together, releasing invisible waves
that fuse with mercurial notes
and drift effortlessly
into the misty night."
There a many special moments in this book, nuggets of awareness that a reader will find precious over many reads. 'Taoist Inner Tube Rider' also comes with a CD. You can hear the poetry spoken and sung. Virginia writes, "live presentation is vital to give poems a voice and let them come alive with dramatic movement that inspires movement and dance".
I would recommend 'Taoist Inner Tube Rider" for readers of all ages. Read it aloud, perhaps with cellist Yo Yo Ma playing in the backround. The book is available from Trafford Publishing.
As an aside, the book cover is designed by a friend of mine, Lucan Charchuk, visual artist, poet, teacher, carpenter (quite bibllcal when you think about it - hmmm.).
