Once Upon A Time On The Road To Uncertainty

Poetry by Norm Tucker

Somehow, for an unknown reason in 1999, I started writing poetry. I recorded the poems in a journal purchased at Banyen Books. The journal book, called ‘American Zen’, is now nearly full.

American ZenI write poetry in the moment when I am in it. As I write I am vaguely aware that I am at one with myself. Without effort, ideas flow through my head and heart into my arms and hands and on to paper.

The poems seem to have several things in common. They are about time, choice, transformation and relationships - a reflection perhaps of a roller coaster life through and around a 3-D labyrinth.

As I look at the first few poems selected for Prism of the Heart, I feel that ideas formerly jumbled in the labyrinth, have simplified. Interesting.

Presence

Stay a while,
Tarry,
Ponder,
Be here,
Don’t do anything,
Merely be present,
Be around, Waiting,
Watching,
Here, with me,
...my friend.

Live Love

To love, to live,
To you, to me,
For you, for me,
For love, forgive.

A Note to: T. and I.

Let us travel together
Building our new stories
Of joy and happiness,
Our hearts harmonized,
Our spirits free.

A Response from: I.

Lie back in the arms of the Universe
In an attitude of Divine nonchalance
…and trust,
And your world will change.

Love – the heartbeat of life,
Hear the joyful, life-giving rhythm.
Listen to it.
Understand it.
Celebrate it.
Without love, we are lost,
Like a metronome without a soul.

Life’s forces propel us
With many bumps along the way
Often casting shadows
As we travel to unknown destinations.

Love dispels darkness
And shines light
On the path as we go.

With love
We are never alone.
Love brings smiles,
Those tiny beams of joy
And goodness
That grace life’s passage
And make all things possible.
