I am grateful to Peter Emmons for suggesting the 'Put Down That Weapon' and the Paul Hardcastle videos. I have added Buffy Sainte-Marie and the 'Universal Soldier'. This concludes my 3-part series on Remembrance Day 2009.
From MySpace watch and listen to: Midnight Oil singing Put Down That Weapon.

From YouTube see: Coverage of the Vietnam War by Paul Hardcastle - the average soldiers age was 19 - and most were black Americans.
From YouTube see and hear: Buffy Sainte-Marie in interview and singing Universal Soldier.
Say No To War.
For my other two articles on Remembrance, please see: Poetry and The Family.
Lyrics to the songs follow below.
Put Down That Weapon by Midnight Oil
Songwriters: Gifford, Peter; Hirst, Robert; Rotsey, Marin; Garrett, Peter; Moginie, James;
No place to retire
To another time
The eyes of the world now turn
And if we think about it
And if we talk about it
And if the skies go dark with rain
Can you tell me will our freedom remain
Put down that weapon or we'll all be gone
You can't hide nowhere with the torchlight on
And it happens to be an emergency
Some things aren't meant to be
Some things don't come for free
Above the waterline
Point the finger yeah point the bone
It's the harbour towns
That the grey metal ships call home
And if we think about it
And if we talk about it
And if the seas go boiling black
Can you tell me what you'll do about that
Put down that weapon or we'll all be gone
I must know something to know it's so wrong
And it happens to be an emergency
Some things aren't meant to be
Some things don't come for free
They keep talking about it
They keep talking...
Put down that weapon or we'll all be gone
You must be crazy if you think you're strong.

Universal Soldier
And he fights with missiles and with spears
He’s all of 31 and he’s only 17.
And he’s been a soldier for a thousand years
He’s a catholic, a Hindu, an atheist, a Jane
A boarders, a Baptist and Jew.
And he knows he shouldn’t ‘ve killed
And he knows he always will kill
You’ll for me my friend and me for you
He’s fighting for Canada.
He’s fighting for
He’s fighting for the
And he’s fighting for the Russians.
And he’s fighting for
And he thinks we’ll brought an end to war this way.
He’s fighting for democracy,
he’s fighting for the reds
He says it’s for the peace of all.
He’s the one, who must decide,
who’s to live and who’s to die.
And he never sees the writing on the walls.
But without him,
how would Hitler have condemned him at
Without him Caesar would have stood alone
He’s the one who gives is body
as a weapon to the war.
And without him all this killing can’t go on
He’s the universal soldier
And he really is the blame
But his orders comes from
far away no more.
They come from him.
And you and me.
Oh, brothers can’t you see.
This is not the way we put an end to war.
